SASSA Gold Cards to Be Phased Out March 2025 – What Beneficiaries Need to Know

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced a major change for grant beneficiaries: the SASSA Gold Cards will soon become obsolete. Beneficiaries must replace their Gold Cards with the new Postbank Black Cards before the official deadline to continue receiving their grants without disruption.

SASSA Gold Card Replacement Deadline

SASSA and Postbank have set 28 February 2025 as the final date for beneficiaries to switch to the new Black Card. Regardless of the expiry date printed on their Gold Cards, all beneficiaries must replace them before this deadline. Failure to do so will result in their Gold Cards being blocked, preventing them from withdrawing funds or making transactions.

In an official statement, SASSA emphasized:

“After this deadline, Gold Cards will not function to withdraw cash from ATMs and retailers, nor will they be valid for balance inquiries, statement printing, or purchases. Beneficiaries must replace their cards to ensure continued access to their grants.”
