SASSA Grant Payment Dates for May 2025 Confirmed

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the official payment schedule for May 2025. If you’re a grant recipient, here’s everything you need to know — from payment dates to important updates about SASSA cards.

When Will SASSA Grants Be Paid in May 2025?

SASSA will start paying grants in the second week of May. Here are the dates for each grant type:

  • Older Persons Grant – Tuesday, 6 May 2025
  • Disability Grant – Wednesday, 7 May 2025
  • Children’s Grants – Thursday, 8 May 2025

Recent Increase in Grant Amounts

As announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, social grants were increased slightly in April 2025. This includes the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, which went up from R350 to R370 starting last month.

If you’re receiving any of these grants, you’ll continue to get the new amount in May.

Important: SASSA Gold Cards Are Being Replaced

SASSA is reminding all beneficiaries with gold cards to switch to the new Postbank black card before 31 May 2025.

After May, the old gold cards will be blocked, and you won’t be able to use them to access your grant money.

If you haven’t changed your card yet, visit your nearest Postbank branch or SASSA office as soon as possible.

How to Avoid Long Queues and Stay Safe

SASSA is encouraging people to use digital and retail banking services instead of going to busy pay points. This is especially helpful in remote areas where queues can be long.

Tips from SASSA:

  • Wait for your SMS confirmation before going to withdraw money.
  • Once the grant is paid into your account, it stays there — no need to rush.
  • Use ATMs, supermarkets, or bank cards to access your money safely.
